Thursday 23rd of February 2012BASCO, Batanes, Feb. 23 (PIA) -- The Batanes State College (BSC) recently acquired a three-ton fishing boat worth P1.7-M and it was launched last month along with the fish farm laboratory, maintained by the college at Diura, Mahatao, one of the adopted barangays of BSC.
The fishing boat acquisition and a fish farm laboratory aimed to meet the laboratory requirements of the Diploma of Fisheries of the college. The course on agri. fisheries was opened in school year 2009-2010.
The fishing boat, registered M/V Pangamungan (the local term means for fishing or a fishing vessel) is powered by a 226 B Series marine diesel engine. The vessel is also equipped with fish finder, freezer, hook and lines, and nets.
The college fishing boat is an income generating project while it serves as instructional gadget. The fishing boat is operated by the college and the income generated from its operation goes to the school. (TCB/NGA-PIA Batanes)
