CABARROGUIS, Quirino, June 21 (PIA) -– The Department of Labor and Employment – Region 2 awarded checks worth more than P700,000 to 346 students in the province as payment for services rendered under the government's Special Program of the Employment of Students (SPES).

The total amount comprises 40 percent DOLE funds and 60 percent local government funds. The checks were turned over by regional director Sixto Rodriguez Jr. to the students from Cabarroguis and Saguday municipal schools, and Quirino provincial schools.

Rodriguez urged beneficiaries to use their hard-earned money for their school needs.

He also said the beneficiaries have local government units to thank for the opportunity to earn money.

The regional director added that DOLE will be allotting another 50 slots for Cabarroguis to accommodate children of displaced workers.

Meanwhile, Gov. Junie E. Cua said the provincial government has been allotting funds for SPES every year to ease parents’ burden in providing allowance for their children.

Cua added the students are assigned to work in the different offices of the provincial government.

“SPES has been providing additional cash allowances to the students and at the same time they are also trained on different jobs which they could apply in the future,” Cua said. (TCB/PIA 2, Quirino)
