SAN MATEO, Isabela, July 5 (PIA) -- This town’s market administration office is strictly monitoring compliance with the anti-plastic ordinance to ensure that all business establishments and the public are obeying it.

The municipal government of San Mateo has passed the anti-plastic ordinance aimed at helping the government in protecting the environment.

Engr. Adora Magno, head of the economic enterprise office, said that less than a month after the implementation of the ordinance, her office has been conducting strict monitoring activities daily to ensure that all business establishments and vendors inside the public market and in barangays are not using plastic bags in selling their products.

Magno said the strict implementation of the anti-plastic ordinance is gaining appreciation from barangay officials and the residents as there are now lesser plastic bags littered in the streets in the town.

Garbage collectors have also observed that there is already a reduction of plastic bags being collected in the designated garbage areas since the ordinance was implemented on June 19.

Magno said San Mateo residents has realized the rationale behind the implementation of the ordinance and are religiously obeying it.

“Our public address system and the thorough monitoring of our market employees are the effective means of implementing the anti-plastic ordinance,” Magno said. (PIA- Isabela)
