Friday 3rd of August 2012
ILAGAN, Isabela, Aug 3 (PIA) -- A grand motorcade was launched Thursday, starting at the town’s biggest mall, signaling the official kick-off of the campaign for the cityhood of this capital town.

Municipal officials, led by Mayor Jose Marie Diaz, barangay officials, government organizations, non-government organizations, the academe, schools, and other sectors in the locality, joined the motorcade as show of support for the cityhood of Ilagan.

Motorcycles, tricycles, jeepneys, vans, buses, government and private vehicles carrying banners, flaglets and posters lined-up at a mall here and joined the motorcade expressing “Yes” to cityhood of Ilagan.

The campaign for Ilagan’s cityhood runs today until August 9, while the plebiscite will be conducted on August 12.

A plebiscite is a popular vote on a proposal that includes the entire populace.

Voters are asked to either reject or accept the proposal, with the outcome of the plebiscite determining the fate of the proposed measure, action, constitution or other political proposal. A plebiscite should not be confused with a general election or regular voting, as no party candidates are included in it.

The election period has officially started July 13 and ends August 16. (PIA 10, Isabela)
