CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, April 15 (PIA) - President Benigno S. Aquino III has signed Administrative Order No.9, providing for a housing program for the military and police personnel.
The Order directs the National Housing Authority (NHA) to take the lead in effecting the formulation, implementation, and management of the housing program which is expected to support the housing needs of low-salaried members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The program, entitled “AFP/PNP Housing Project,” involves the provision of permanent housing sites for applicants who shall qualify under the beneficiaries selection criteria formulated for the program.
The Order is in recognition of the efforts and sacrifices of the military and police personnel, and their families, who deserve decent and affordable housing.
The budget for the project will be sourced from the budgetary support to the NHA and other funds made available by the national government.
The budget will cover the cost of the development of the housing sites, cost of the requited social and recreational facilities to serve needs of the communities, water and power connection costs, and administrative and other necessary costs to implement the program.
Under Section 3 of the AO, concerned government agencies, such as the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), must extend assistance and support in the implementation of the program.
The housing program aims to address the housing needs of still a large number of military and police personnel who remains in need of housing provision. (WLB-PIA 3)
