Two-day liquor ban in effect in Mabalacat town now

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga, July 20 (PIA) -- Commission on Elections (Comelec) is now imposing a two-day liquor ban in Mabalacat in connection with tomorrow’s plebiscite to ratify the conversion of the town into a component city pursuant to Republic Act 10164.

Comelec Resolution No. 9453 dated June 15, 2012 states that “in compliance to the Omnibus Election Code, it shall be unlawful for any person - including owners and managers of hotels and other establishments to sell, furnish, offer, buy, serve or take intoxicating liquor anywhere in the whole municipality of Mabalacat from July 20, the day before the plebiscite to July 21, the day of the plebiscite.

Hotels and other establishments duly certified by the Department of Tourism as tourist-oriented and are in the business of catering foreign tourists may be exempted for justifiable reasons provided they have prior written authority from the commission.

Established in 1712, the 300-year old municipality is eyeing to be the 141st city of the country and the third in Pampanga after Angeles and San Fernando. (WLB/CLJD-PIA 3)
