Cordillera cop bats for unity against corruption
BAGUIO CITY, June 13 (PIA) -- Cordillera Police Regional Director P/Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong stressed the need for Filipinos to work together to preserve our independence and for a united front against corruption, as he assured that the region’s police force pushes for peaceful and orderly communities, through President Aquino’s goal of “tuwid na daan.”
Magalong was the guest speaker in the city’s celebration of the country’s 114th Independence Day, which adopts the theme, "Kalayaan: Pananagutan ng Bayan para sa Tuwid na Daan,” held at the Baguio Convention Center, yesterday.
In his keynote address, Magalong stressed that as the Filipinos celebrate the 114th year of Philippine Independence, which our heroes and ancestors fought for, “we should also work together in preserving this independence, as well as in pushing a united front in fighting graft and corruption so that we can liberate our people from oppression and poverty brought by greed and corrupt practices of some government officials and influential people.”
He assured that Cordillera Police is one with the “tuwid na daan” governance of the Aquino Administration, and is now serious in cleansing its ranks and improving productivity through the Performance Governance System or the Philippine National Police (PNP) Integrated Transformation Program.
He reported that just recently, 14 PNP officials and personnel have been charged for graft and corrupt practices, which may cause their dismissal from the service. This he said shows that the organization abhors corruption and is serious in cleaning up the institution.
Magalong also assured that they will continue to work hard in ensuring a peaceful and orderly environment for the public. He appealed for the people’s help especially the barangay and the local communities, as the PNP cannot do this task alone without unity and cooperation. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
