Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Weekend to feature biggest wedding cake

BAGUIO CITY, July 6 (PIA) - - Food and culinary enthusiasts have many exciting things to look forward to in the Hotel and Restaurant Tourism (HRT) Weekend 2012 scheduled September 6 to 8 in the city.

During the event's launching Wednesday, Albert Flores, event coordinator, disclosed that they will display the "Largest Wedding Cake II" at SM City Baguio.

The HRT Weekend, which is now on its ninth year, adopts the theme, "The Largest and Most Credible Culinary Showdown in the North."

The Hotel, Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) under the leadership of Anthony De Leon, never fails to come up with remarkable events to highlight the festivity such as the Longest and Tastiest Raisin Bread, Giant Ice Castles, the Longest Original Baguio Longganisa, Chefs on Parade, the Largest Pizza, Pasta Festival, and the Fried Rice Festival: Rice and Shine.

HRAB made the first staging of the Largest Wedding Cake in 2007 and it became the dream cake of 60 couples in a mass wedding.

For this year, Baguio Country Club Pastry Chef Art Nucaza disclosed that they will be making a four-layered chocolate cake garnished with fresh fruits that will weigh 1,600 kilos. It is 25 feet in diameter and 18 feet in height, for mass wedding couples and the public to share, free of charge.

According to Nucaza, they invited bakers from other known bakeshop and restaurants in Baguio, as well as hotel and restaurant students, for baking the enormous cake, which would take five days to prepare.

Other slated activities for the 9th HRT Weekend are the "HRAB Got Talent’"competition on September (2 pm), Cooking Demo by a Celebrity Chef – September 8 also at the SM City Atrium, and the various Culinary Competitions which will be simultaneously held at Baguio Country Club and SM City Atrium from September 6 to 8.

According to Anne Ramos, also of HRAB, they expect hotel and eestaurant educational institutions not only here in North Luzon but from other parts of the country to join in the HRT weekend. ((JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
