TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite, June 16 (PIA) -- As part of their continuing labor education seminar (CLES), the provincial office of the Depatment of Labor (DoLE) held recently an orientation on New Wage Order No. IVA-15 and Republic Act 9710, commonly known as the Magna Carta for Women.

About 39 participants representing 26 companies from the different parts of Cavite attended the activity.

Rosalinda G. Reyes, DoLE senior labor and employment officer, clarified major issues raised regarding the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) on the new wage order. She also explained some technical terms in the IRR that are confusing to the employers.

The discussion on Magna Carta for Women aimed to update the employers on the amendments in the guidelines on the implementation of the special leave benefit for women employees in the private sector issued by DoLE Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz on 22 May 2012.

Workers in Calabarzon region got an increase in the prevailing minimum wage (Tier 1) and productivity-based pay (Tier 2) last May 15 after the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB) issued the order and announced by DoLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz on May 1, Labor Day.

The new wage order grants an adjustment in the basic pay of minimum wage earners by as much as P18 per day, especially those whose minimum wage rates fall below the prescribed floor wage of P255 per day. (CPG-PIA 4A with report from Myrose Basila, DoLE-Cavite)
