BATANGAS CITY, July 6 (PIA) -- Six deaf and mute graduates from the Batangas National High School (BNHS) Special Education were among the 151 youths enrolled under the government internship program (GIP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The said youths are now working in the day care centers of different barangays within the city as assistants of daycare teachers in the feeding program and other activities.

According to Irene Ibon, teacher at BNHS special education, the program is a big help specifically to the PWDs.

Through the program, they will learn to mingle with people, gain self confidence and exposure, and more importantly, help their parents.

City Social Welfare and Development Officer Mila Espanola said the GIP aims to give employment to out-of-school youths (OSYs) or youths from indigent families studying vocational courses to assist them in their expenses.

Aside from providing employment, Espanola said the program also aims to provide work experience to the beneficiaries. (CPG-PIA4A with report from PIO-Batangas City)
