769 pregnant women converge for health orientation in Laguna
SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna, July 19 (PIA) -- Some 769 pregnant women from different barangays in the 3rd district of Laguna joined the “Buntis Congress” held at Barangay San Francisco in this city last July 14.
The soon-to-be moms were oriented on the importance of breast feeding, new born screening and caring for their health as well as the unborn child in their womb.
Research shows that an informed parent is an important factor in the full development of both the mother and the baby, resulting in healthier babies and lower medical costs.
Breastfeeding helps both mothers and babies stay healthy. Doctors encourage breast feeding and babies be fed only with breast milk for the first six months of their lives.
Breast milk has the right amount of fat, sugar, water and protein that babies need, is much easier for a baby to digest and reduces or eliminates formula cost for families, thus, saving money. It also helps protect the baby from infections such as colds, reduces the risk of allergies, obesity and illnesses like ear infections, diarrhea and respiratory infections. Breastfeeding also helps in strengthening the bond between mother and child.
The “Buntis Congress” was initiated by Laguna 3rd District Representative Ivy Arago for the constituents of San Pablo and the municipalities of Alaminis, Calauan, Liliw, Nagcarlan, Rizal and Victoria. (CPG/Grace Bondad-Nicolas,PIA4A)
