UNESCO, accredits Laguna's youth development affairs

STA. CRUZ, Laguna, June 17 (PIA) --The Youth Development Affairs (YDA) under the office of the governor of Laguna was recognized and accredited by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) thru its National Association of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines (NAUCP), Inc., June 11, 2012.

YDA is now part of a global people's movement that develop understanding and support for UNESCO and its programmes. UNESCO Clubs seek to disseminate UNESCO’s ideals and undertake activities directly encouraged by the Organization; expand cultural horizons; and provide an invaluable service to UNESCO and to the National Commissions for UNESCO in supplementing public information activities. The Province of Laguna is the only UNESCO Club accredited province for 2012.

The awarding ceremony was held at Hotel Kimberly, Pedro Gil St., Malate, Manila. The certificate of recognition was awarded by Dr. Virginia Miralao, Secretary-General of UNESCO National Commission; Prof. Serafin Arviola, Jr., Chairman of the Board of NAUCP; and Mr. Sherwin Halili-Taay, President of NAUCP.

Governor Jeorge “E.R.” Ejercito Estregan with Pagsanjan Mayor Girlie “Maita” Ejercito and YDA Head Fatima Villasenor received the award.

Also present in the event were Provincial Adiministrator Atty. Leonardo M. Ragaza, Jr.; Chief-of-Staff Carlos F. Dolendo; Public Affairs Office Head Gener Dimaranan; and Sectoral Concern Office Head Angelito Bombay.

After the awarding, two YDA staff, namely, Cyril Jay Madiz and Jonathan Sieras attended the 2nd UNESCO club workshop series on educating for international understanding with the theme: “Educating for Sustainability!
