1,000 schools join ‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ project
LUCENA CITY, Quezon, July 21 (PIA) -- Some 1,000 elementary and secondary schools will take part in the third season of the province-wide “Gulayan sa Paaralan” project.
Quezon Governor David Suarez said the project will benefit thousands of students by teaching them proper vegetable gardening and eating vegetables to solve malnutrition among children.
“The main purpose of this project is to promote school’s vegetable gardening among the students and at the same time the school could win prizes for the improvement of their schools,” Suarez said.
Suarez added the students will use organic farming technology to promote eating of vegetables to have a healthy mind and body.
The only kinds of vegetables to be planted in the school garden are pechay, kulitis, mustasa, kangkong, beans, cucumber, tomato, eggplant, and okra.
The winners are categorized into municipal, district, and provincial levels. Prizes range from P15,000 to P250,000 worth of projects for the schools. (CPG/JMG-PIA4A Quezon)
