Bicol Harvest spearheads essay writing contest on the legacy of Sec. Robredo
DAET, Camarines Norte, Aug 28 (PIA) -- An essay writing competition to honor the late Secretary Jesse Robredo’s exemplary governance as mayor of Naga City and head of the Department of Interior and Local Government will be held in the Bicol Region.
The Bicol Harvest Magazine, in cooperation with the Kaya Natin Movement and the ABS CBN, has proposed the contest dubbed “Bicol 2012 Essay Writing Competition on the Living Legacy of Secretary Jesse Robredo.”
Tito Sarion, publisher of the Bicol Harvest Magazine, said the essay writing competition is very timely to honor the late secretary, who inspires many local leaders in the country, as such various sectors of the society had considered him as one good man in the public service.
He said the contest, with the theme “The living Legacy of Secretary Jesse Robredo," aims to honor Robredo for his achievements in service.
The competition aims to attract youth participants to motivate them to choose the right path, Sarion said.
The winning essay will be published in the Bicol Harvest, a magazine for sustainable for Bicol and the country.
The province-wide contest as well as the regional competition will be requested to be facilitated by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the DILG as co-proponent of the activity.
Participants will be secondary and tertiary students endorsed by their respective schools. Winners will receive cash prizes as well as tokens coming from the corporate sponsors like the SM Naga.
The launch, together with the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the proponent, co-proponent and other partners of the project will be on September 21, 2012 at the Heritage Center, Daet with Noel Cabangon as guest, Sarion said.
The contest at the provincial level will be on the October and November while the regional competition and awarding of winners will be on December 8 at the SM Naga City.
This is also in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). (RBM/PIA Camarines Norte).
