Tabuk City invites participants to the Matagaoan Run

TABUK CITY, Kalinga, June 21(PIA) -- The city government of Tabuk is enjoining everyone in the city to participate in the annual 2012 Matagoan Run event on June 23.

Designed to showcase the traditional and indigenous sports of the city, the Matagoan Run, which features runners wearing the G-string for the men and tapis (traditional wrapped around skirts) for the women, is one of the attractions of the yearly Matagoan Festival of the city.

To start at around 5:00 a.m., the 18 and above category run will cover about the seven kilometers stretch of the Bulanao to Dagupan Provincial Road. This level is open to all college students 18 years and above, out of school youths, and all interested individuals.

The 13 to 17 year old category is for the public and private high schools, out of school youth and college students. Contenders under this category will race from Barangay San Juan to the Tabuk Gym.

Under the 7 to 12 year old level, the race is open to all public and private elementary schools. The marathon under this level will begin from Tampco Inn in Appas to the Tabuk Gym.

Prizes at stake are cash awards and cellular phones and consolation prizes for the finishers. Prizes vary depending on the category.

Each barangay and school is expected to have at least 10 to 15 participants for said marathon.

All contenders will be mandated to undergo medical examination while participants aged 18 and below must also have their parents’ consent to join in said sports activity.
