, March 2 (PIA 9) - - The International Monitoring Team (IMT) from Malaysia Thursday afternoon met with Mayor Celso Lobregat, as it
culminates its stint as international truce observer based in Zamboanga City.
The team, led by Capt. Khalid Bin Jaafar, exchanged views covering various with Mayor Lobregat. Other members of the team were Lt. Cdr. Mohamad Azha Bin, Dip. Nazar Bin Kangsar as Operations Officer, Major Mohammad Zulehram Bin Yahcub and Assistant Operations Officer Jakaria Bin Jamal.
The IMT-M6 Team Site 3 is the 6th batch of Malaysian officials assigned in the City to act as observers in the peace talks between the Philippine Government (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
The group officially started its term March 12, 2011 and is expected to leave on Thursday next week after reporting to their main base in Cotabato City.
It can be recalled that the first team of observers came to the City in 2002 following the progress of negotiations between the government and the Moro rebels.
Aside from Zamboanga, there are also other groups of Malaysian officials who are assigned in Iligan City, General Santos City and Cotabato City as their main operation site.
For the Zamboanga Team, who are based in Western Mindanao Command, their area of responsibility covers the entire Region 9 including Basilan, Jolo and Tawi-Tawi.
Each team is comprised of officers from the Malaysian Navy, Army, Police and Airforce.
It is expected that the incoming batch of observer-mediators will be in the City by March 13, 2012. (JPA/RA/CIO/PIA- ZBST)
