School teachers undergo training on K+12
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, July 25 (PIA) -- Grade 1 school teachers had undergone training here to enhance their teaching strategy for the effective implementation of the K+12 program of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Oscar P. Flores, DepEd-1 education program supervisor, said 4,042 public school teachers attended the training on May 16-28. He added that 247 private school teachers had their training last June 6 to 8.
The DepEd-1 gave free educational kits and provided board and lodging to participants.
Meanwhile, DepEd 1 Chief of Elementary Division Vivian S. Pagatpatan said in an interview, the training primarily focused on K+12 curriculum.
Topics discussed were relevant features of the program like the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) and core academic areas like Math, Filipino, English, Araling Panlipinan, Music and Arts and others based on the College Readiness Standards of Commission on Higher Education.
Flores said teachers from grade one to three are mandated to teach dialects they use in their localities to adopt the concept MTB-MLE as part of the curriculum this 2012 to 2013.
This aims to underscore mastery of language and culture among the enrolled students this year.
“As of now we can see that K+ 12 is effective in some aspect because we observed that language developments are seen to these children enrolled especially in public schools because they often applied it on their day to day living,” he said.
Pagatpatan added that grade 2 public school teachers also went training on the MTB-MLE from July 5 to 8, 13 to 15 and 20 and 22.
Assessment to the said program, grading system policy, various approaches or pedagogy in teaching was also touched for the adoption of the program.
“That’s why we encouraged private schools to fully adopt said program for the success of the implementation of this year K+12,” Flores said.(ANL/MHH PIA1 La Union)
