Environment task force confiscates illegally transported lumbers
ILAGAN, Isabela, July 27 (PIA) -- The Isabela Environment Protection Task Force (IEPTF) has confiscated 7,800 board feet of illegally transported common hardwood, loaded in a forward truck in a checkpoint at Benito Soliven, Isabela Thursday.
Geronimo Cabaccan, Isabela environment and natural resources officer, said the apprehension of the illegally transported lumbers was made by the IEPTF enforcers at the said checkpoint.
The truck loaded with the lumbers is now in the custody of the IEPTF and impounded at the provincial gymnasium after the apprehension.
The relentless campaign against illegal logging was implemented in the province when the new provincial leadership led by Governor Faustino G. Dy III launched an anti-illegal operations.
Dy has cited during his inauguration in 2010 that he is against illegal logging to preserve the remaining forest in the province.
Under his watch, there were numerous confiscations of illegally transported logs and lumbers and are now impounded at the provincial gymnasium, while other confiscated logs and lumbers were donated to local government units and government agencies in the province, which were used for the repair of offices destroyed by recent typhoons that directly affected the province.
