TS ‘Gener’ brings no harm to the people of Isabela

ILAGAN, Isabela, July 31 (PIA) -- Tropical storm ‘Gener’ has not brought any harm and damage to the people of Isabela as the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has thoroughly prepared for the storm’s entry since Saturday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-asa) placed the province under storm signal number 1 since Sunday. Precautionary measures were also made to avert damages on lives and properties.

Provincial Spokesperson Maricel Ramil, lawyer, said the province’s disaster risk reduction council has pre-positioned relief goods at the four coastal towns of Isabela and in low-lying areas including the search and rescue teams from the different parts of Isabela.

The search and rescue teams from several agencies in the province are pre-positioned in flood-prone areas that were expected to be affected by the Tropical storm Gener.

The PDRRMC has also been closely monitoring the landslide-prone areas and has prohibited fishermen from fishing since Saturday to avert any eventualities that may bring by the storm.

Ramil said Isabela has only felt slight to moderate rains in the last 48 hours, the rains have benefitted rice and corn farmers in Isabela as it watered rice and corn plants of farmers.

Magat dam officials are also closely monitoring the water elevation of the dam including the water inflow and outflow of the dam.

Water elevation as of 6 a.m. on July 31 is 190. 31 meters, water inflow is 349 cubic meters per second and outflow is 172 cubic meters per second.

Based on the monitoring conducted by the PDRRMC, major rivers in the province, the Cagayan River and Pinakanawan rivers registered rise of river water in the last 48 hours. (PIA2 Isabela)
