PAFELA gives out school supplies to schools
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, June 12 (PIA) -- The Pag-IBIG Fund Employees Labor Association (PAFELA) – Bacolod Chapter held an outreach program last week by giving school supplies to the elementary school students in Bacolod City and Sagay, this province.
Mae Ramos, chairperson of PAFELA, said the outreach is a way of helping students coming from indigent families to have free school supplies this school year.
Meanwhile, vice-chair Roland Gilo said the theme for their outreach program is “GAMIT PANG-ESKWELA, BULIG SANG PAFELA.”
The recipients of this program were Arceo Elementary School of Brgy. Alangilan in Bacolod City and Marcelo Elementary School of Sagay City.
A total of 414 students of Arceo Elementary School from kindergarten to grade six received school supplies that include notebooks, pens, pencils and writing pads.
A total of 550 students from kindergarten to grade two of Marcelo Elementary School also benefited from the free school supplies.
Funding for this program came from the proceeds of the successful UNITY RUN 2012 held last March 24 at the New Government Center, Bacolod City and organized by PAFELA members and Pag-IBIG Fund-Bacolod Branch employees, in cooperation with the Fund management headed by its department manager Ma. Lourdes Uy.
The union also received donations from the Fast Cargo Logistics Corporation which donated 2,050 pieces of notebooks while Globe Philippines Inc (Bacolod) donated 1,000 pieces of pens and Foodman Industries Incorporated sponsored snacks for the visitors, Department of Education officials, teachers and staffs who were present during the event.
PAFELA-Bacolod Chapter believes that aside from safeguarding the employees’ welfare, the union also needs to exercise its social responsibility by extending help to the community with the hope that this will motivate the children to move a step closer in attaining their dreams.*(JSC/EAD-PIA6/Pag-IBIG Negros Occidental)
