Regional disaster council sponsors essay writing, poster-slogan making tilt
ILOILO CITY, July 19 (PIA6) -- The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) is enlisting more participation from the youth in the 2012 observance of National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM 2012) this July by organizing an on-the-spot essay writing and poster-slogan making contests focusing on the importance of disaster preparedness on July 26 at Robinson’s Place here.
The twin contests have been included by the RDRRMC for the first time among the highlights of the NDCM observance in the region. These will also be anchored on the theme of this year’s observance, “Ligtas na Bayan, Maunlad na Pamayanan”.
RDRRMC chairperson and Office of Civil Defense Regional Director Rosario Cabrera said the twin contests were conceived to tap the ideas and talents of young people on how to instil among their fellow youth and the community in general greater awareness of their role in disaster preparedness and in helping create safe and resilient communities and promoting sustainable development.
The competitions will be participated in by representative elementary and secondary students from the different schools divisions of the region. The winners will receive cash prizes and certificates.
The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and Department of Education (DepEd) in the region are supporting the RDRRMC and OCD in this endeavour.
Another first-time activity adopted by RDRRMC this year was the fluvial parade, an idea suggested by PIA6, which was held July 3 as among the opening highlights of the regional observance. (JCM/JSC/PIA6)
