TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, July 20 (PIA) -- Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Eastern Visayas will soon be equipped with new technology that will help improve productivity and quality of goods.

The Department of Trade and Industry is pushing for the implementation of the program on shared service facilities in the region.

DTI Regional Director Cynthia Nierras disclosed that Eastern Visayas is one of the four pilot regions for the program and that the program will be centered at the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU).

Nierras explained that through the facility, SMEs in the region will be equipped with packaging machines, dyers or roaster to help enhance the quality of product and increase the output of economic clusters.

In addition to helping the SMEs, EVSU’s food technology course will also be upgraded with the use of the equipment placed in the school, added Nierras.

DTI is helping the SMEs particularly those in the rural areas to propel the economic growth in the said areas.

Presently, DTI is assisting 160 SMEs focusing on food processors. (PIA-8)
