CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, March 4 (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) has released steps on how to handle dead birds or poultry suspected with avian influenza or bird flu.
According to the DA in Central Luzon, upon receiving report from the farmer, the livestock inspector (LI) or municipal agriculturist officer (MAO) must verify and report immediately to the Provincial Veterinary Office (ProVet).
After this, the Provincial Action Team will go to the site where the dead bird was found and will investigate immediately and collect the sample.
The sample will then be submitted to the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL) which will examine the collected sample to identify if it is positive or negative.
If negative, the RADDL will inform the ProVet and the ProVet will re-echo this to MAO. The MAO will have to notify the concerned farmer about the result.
If found positive, then the RADDL will submit the sample to the National Avian Influenza laboratory for confirmation.
If confirmed, the Laboratory Director will have to inform the Local Chief Executive and make the necessary announcements.
Immediately, the DA and DOH Secretaries will have to conduct a press conference in relation to this. (WLB/JGB-PIA3)
