PIA SULTAN KUDARAT: Sultan Kudarat Governor Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu is calling on government workers and residents to be more discerning about the information they encounter, especially on social media, warning that misinformation can lead to serious consequences.
โWith the advent of social media, mabilis kumalat ang mga maling balita o mga chismis na hindi naman verified. Thatโs why I remind everyoneโbe cautious. Hindi lahat ng information na nakakarating sa kanila ay tama o verified,โ Mangudadatu said.
The governor emphasized three key reminders for the public: Think before you believe, as not all news is accurate and should be verified before sharing; be vigilant, because misinformation can influence decisions and cause unnecessary conflicts; and use wisdom, since acting on false information can harm individuals and communities.
Mangudadatu pointed to real-world examples of misinformationโs impact, citing cases where family ties have been broken, friendships lost, and political groups divided because of false claims.
โIlang pamilya na ba ang ang away-away dahil sa tsismis? How many political groups have split because of fake news? Many conflicts could have been avoided if people just took the time to check the facts,โ he said.
He urged residents to be more responsible with their social media activity and to prioritize truth over sensationalism.
โKailangan paigtingin natin ang counter checking ng mga balita, kailangan makita natin kung tama ba ang ating mga social media posts. Freedom of expression is important, but so is truth,โ he emphasized.
โWe should all strive for transparency and accuracy so that people can make the right decisions based on facts, not rumors. I agree with that kasi dapat ang mga tao, when they make decisions, it is a well-informed decision,โ the official added.
