100 riders in Camiguin lead world day of remembrance

CAMIGUIN (PIA)–Paying tribute to those who lost their lives or were seriously injured in road accidents and raising awareness about road safety, about 100 riders from various motorcycle clubs in the province gathered on November 26 to observe the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

The Lady Lion Riders Club (LLRC)-led delegation embarked on a meaningful ride around the scenic island of Camiguin. Prior to the journey, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Camiguin personnel and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) partnered to conduct thorough checks of the licenses and registrations of all participating riders.

Rosgen Agnes Borres, LLRC president, expressed the club’s commitment to promoting road safety and awareness. “May this be one of the stepping stones para ma-unite ta tanan mga riders nga mahimo’g [so we can unite all riders and that they become] good examples to the other riders and be the partners of our government in their call for road safety and awareness,” Borres stated.

The event garnered support from various government agencies, including the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Camiguin. Marlon Labadan of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Camiguin emphasized the importance of the occasion in honoring those who have suffered from traffic accidents.

“It is a profoundly important event to remember a thousand people who have been killed and seriously injured in road accidents and to acknowledge the crucial work of emergency services such as rescue response teams, ambulances, and traffic enforcers for an appropriately strenuous response. We advocate for better support for traffic victims,” Labadan said.

For his part, Atanacio Lusdoc, Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) head, highlighted the role of prevention in ensuring road safety. “Dili man nimo malikayan ang disgrasya pero ma-prevent nato through mag-slow down ta sa dagan, and especially follow the traffic rules and regulations sa ana nga lugar [You can’t avoid accidents, but we can prevent them by slowing down and following the traffic rules and regulations in that area],” Lusdoc emphasized.

The event served as a platform for advocacy, emphasizing the importance of responsible riding and adherence to traffic rules to prevent road accidents. The participants, together with government agencies, pledged to work together to foster a culture of safety on the roads of Camiguin. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
