KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) — Some 1,152 rice farmers in Tboli town have received cash assistance under the Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA) program of the Department of Agriculture on Monday.
Bary Lugan, Tboli municipal agriculture officer said the cash grant is a remedy of the government to augment the capacities of the farmers who are affected by the implementation of the Rice Tarrification Law.
The intervention is given by DA as compensation for the income loss of rice farmers due to the drop in the selling price of palay and the increasing cost of fertilizer and other farm inputs.
“The number of RFFA beneficiaries increased because of the efforts of OMAg Tboli to enroll the farmers in the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBSA),” he added.
Under the special provisions of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF), the RFFA program provides rice farmers who are registered under the RSBSA and tilling two hectares and below of land, unconditional cash assistance of P5,000. (PIA-XII)
