12K barangay officials attend Iloilo Liga Month culmination

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – Around 12,000 barangay officials in Iloilo province gathered at the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz, Iloilo City on Sept. 15, 2024 for the culmination of this year’s Liga Month celebration.

Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB)-Iloilo Chapter president and ex-officio Provincial Board member Amalia Victoria Debuque, in a press conference on Sept. 11, said that the event aims to promote unity and boost progress in the community, noting that this year’s celebration is anchored to the theme, “Connecting Barangays, Shaping Tomorrows.”

“Through connecting one barangay to another, we will pave the way for more development in our province, in the community,” she stressed, noting that the event helped local leaders to develop strategies to improve their service delivery and economic growth.

The event, according to Debuque, served as a venue to remind barangay leaders of their roles in addressing dengue issues in the community through different interventions, noting that cases continue to rise and the entire province is currently in a state of calamity status.

Different key figures were invited by the council, including Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.; 1st District’s Cong. Janette Garin, 2nd District’s Cong. Michael Gorriceta, 3rd District’s Cong. Lorenz Defensor, 4th District’s Cong. Ferjenel Biron, 5th District’s Cong. Raul Tupas, and Uswag Ilonggo party-list James “Jojo” Ang Jr. Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjur Abalos Jr., graced the event. (AAL/JNH/PIA Iloilo)
