ICC confirms Duterte’s identity, informs him of charges and rights

Former President Rodrigo Duterte appeared via video link at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague on Friday, March 14, with former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea as his legal counsel. He faces crimes against humanity charges over his war on drugs.
During the hearing, Presiding Judge Iulia Antoanella Motoc confirmed his identity, language preference, and informed him of his charges and rights under the ICC Rome Statute.
The confirmation of charges hearing is set for September 23, 2025, where he can challenge the prosecutor’s evidence.
