178 aspiring scholars take BFAR’s national qualifying exam

ILOILO CITY (PIA) — A total of 178 scholarship applicants out of 199 expected examinees were accommodated for the Fisheries Scholarship Program National Qualifying Examination (FSP-NQE) of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) held recently.

The young aspirants who were vying to become an “Iskolar ng BFAR” came from different provinces and were accommodated in testing centers located in New Washington, Aklan; San Jose de Buenavista, Antique; Roxas City, Capiz; Jordan, Guimaras; Iloilo City; and Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

Students applied for various scholarship categories including the Fisherfolk Children Education Grant (FCEG), the Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant (FILG), and the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) scholarship program.

In Aklan, the Provincial Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Training Development and Product Center hosted applicants with 16 students under the FCEG, 1 under the FILG, and 5 under the ICC/IPs categories.

In Antique, the Antique National School accommodated 13 FCEG applicants, 10 FILG candidates, and 4 ICC/IPs students.

Meanwhile, for Capiz, the Provincial Agriculture Office welcomed 11 FCEG and 4 FILG examinees.

Guimaras State University in Jordan opened its doors to 30 FCEG applicants and 5 FILG candidates.

In Iloilo City, the BFAR 6 Building at the PFDA Complex hosted 21 FCEG applicants, 19 FILG candidates, and 5 ICC/IPs students.

Lastly, in Negros Occidental, Carlos Hilado Memorial State University in Talisay City received 19 FCEG applicants and 15 FILG candidates.

The examination, which started at 8:00 a.m., was conducted simultaneously across various regional testing centers.

At the end of the selection process, three students will be chosen for the FILG category, 20 for FCEG, and three for the ICCs/IPs. These scholarships provide a significant opportunity for the youth to further their education and contribute to the development of the fisheries sector.
