ILOILO CITY (PIA) – – The first Senior Citizen Community Care Center (SC3C) in Western Visayas will be formally launched in the municipality of Cabatuan on September 20.
This was revealed by National Commission of Senior Citizen (NCSC) PDO V Concurrent Head Jocelyn Tabotabo during the first meeting of the Regional Inter-Agency Committee for Older Persons in Region VI on September 6.
Tabotabo said the SC3C is a pet project of the NCSC’s cluster IV involving regions 6, 7 and 9 and was imbibed by all the commissioners in the country as part of the efforts to provide comprehensive care and support to older persons in the communities.
She shared that the first SC3C in the country was established in the municipality of Moalboal, Cebu.
The SC3C is a one stop shop for health and wellness needs including socialization activities and initiatives for income generation, among others, catering to older persons. There will also be a help desk to assist the senior citizens for their queries or concerns.
With the availability of various services and programs, the SC3C intends to create an age-friendly environment and promote active aging initiatives in the community.
Prior to the launch, NCSC – Cluster IV and the local government unit of Cabatuan met with the stakeholders for the establishment of the SC3C in the town on July 17.
The meeting was led by NCSC Commissioner Dr. Mary Jean Loreche and attended by local officials including Municipal Administrator Jay Pueyo and Vice Mayor Ronilo Caspe who expressed their gratitude for the support given to their seniors.
As of August 24, this year, the municipality of Cabatuan has 8,059 registered senior citizens.
In her letter of invitation to the members of the Inter-Agency Committee for Older Persons in the region, Loreche said the launch will serve as a testament to the importance of collaboration between government agencies in addressing the needs of the ageing population. (AAL/LAF/PIA6-Iloilo)
