‘2 Festivals in One Trip’ promotes Buglasan, Masskara festivals

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) -The Provincial Tourism Board of Negros Oriental is promoting a unique travel experience with the launch of the “Two Festivals in One Trip” program.

This initiative invites visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant cultures of both the Buglasan Festival in Negros Oriental and the Masskara Festival in Bacolod City, creating an unforgettable journey through Negros Island.

The Two Festivals in One Trip program has been officially adopted by the Philippine Tourism Operators Association Inc. (PhilTOA), which is actively promoting the initiative to its members across the country.

This strategic partnership aims to leverage the popularity of the MassKara Festival, a globally recognized event, to draw more visitors to the Buglasan Festival.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for tourists to experience two incredible festivals in one trip,” said Provincial Tourism Board executive director Woodrow Maquiling Jr.

The program will start in Dumaguete City for the Buglasan Festival on Oct. 25.

Visitors can then travel to Bacolod for the MassKara Festival on Oct. 27, said Maquiling.

The synergy between the two festivals not only enhances the cultural experience for attendees but also boosts the local economy.

The Bugalasan Festival will start on Oct. 18 to 27 with this year’s theme “Celebrating Dedicated Public Servants, a Resilient and Supportive Constituency, and the Harvest of Progress through Destination Stewardship.”

Tourism in Negros Oriental has seen an increase with a 191 percent increase in visitors as of June 30 this year.

Maquiling is optimistic about surpassing their target of 600,000 tourists by the end of the year.

Negros Oriental Gov. Chaco Sagarbarria highlighted the importance of this collaboration as it will benefit both provinces.

“By coordinating efforts between the province and the city, we can maximize the potential of both festivals,” he said.

The governor said the MassKara Festival is a city-initiated celebration, while Buglasan showcases the rich culture of our province.

“Together, we can create a more compelling reason for tourists to visit Negros,” he added.

Buglasan Festival is reportedly gaining national attention, particularly with the recent announcement from Cebu Pacific Airlines, which has introduced a special seat sale specifically for the Buglasan Festival.

“This marks a significant step in promoting the event on a broader scale, as the airline has previously supported the festival without engaging in extensive national marketing,” said Maquiling.

This initiative promises to offer a diverse and enriching experience for travelers, showcasing the best of what Negros has to offer. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental with reports from Jonah Grace Nicolas, NORSU Intern)
