SORSOGON CITY (PIA) — The provincial government of Sorsogon has enhanced the province’s appeal as a tourism destination by inaugurating new religious sites in time for Holy Week — the Cross of Worship and the Stations of the Cross.
These sites are elevated in Barangay Inlagadian, Casiguran, offering a panoramic view of the sea and surrounding natural landscapes.
Visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of Sorsogon from the top of the hill.
The sites were officially opened to the public on April 3, 2025.
Herbie Aguas, regional director of the Department of Tourism, said these newly constructed religious tourism sites have introduced a significant pilgrimage destination.
They reflect the deep devotion of the people of Sorsogon and enhance the province’s offerings in faith tourism, he said.
According to Bobby Gigantone, the provincial tourism officer of Sorsogon, the timing of the inauguration of the sites was “both strategic and culturally significant.”
“It will attract tourists, particularly local and domestic travelers, as the Philippines is a predominantly Catholic nation. It is expected to draw more visitors, especially since the timing coincides with the Lenten season and summer,” Gigantone stated.
He added that the site is part of a larger, multi-phase development project. Phase 1 includes the current religious features, while plans involve the construction of a chapel, additional amenities, and the installation of a massive cross at the summit of the hill.
To ensure the safety of tourists visiting the newly opened site, several safety agencies have deployed a joint team on-site.
This team includes the Sorsogon Provincial Police Office, the Casiguran Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the Sorsogon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The team is responsible for inspecting vehicles, managing the flow of visitors, and coordinating emergency response efforts, particularly due to the steep terrain of the area.
For tourists planning to hike to the top of the hill, a designated area is available for physical check-ups to assess their ability to endure the hike, as the path requires a certain level of stamina.
In addition to the new attraction in Inlagadian, tourists can explore the nearby Nagsipit Falls, a hidden eco-tourism gem nestled in the mountains of the same village.
The trail leading to the falls has been developed, making the site more accessible to visitors. Close by is the Orok Cold Spring Resort, another refreshing destination known for its cool and crystal-clear waters, perfect for relaxation.
After visiting Barangay Inlagadian, tourists can also explore the famous Pink Roses and 16K Blue Roses Park at the Pier Site in Casiguran, Sorsogon.
This popular attraction features an open area within Plaza Escudero adorned with three-foot-tall artificial blossoms made of illuminated blue and pink LED lights. Additionally, visitors can find the grand statue of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary nearby.
According to Patricia Habla, a resident of Casiguran, having this type of destination is a great opportunity, especially for those who enjoy adventure trips.
“It’s wonderful to have this kind of destination in our town. For people like me who love adventure, it’s perfect. The tourist spots in Casiguran offer not just scenic views—they also provide a sense of thrill, relaxation, and even a spiritual experience,” she said.
