200 PMA graduates and non-graduates unite for 1st NorMin gathering

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)–Some 200 graduates and non-graduates of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) recently convened for the first-ever PMA gathering in northern Mindanao.

The event featured raffles with home appliances and other tokens being distributed among attendees.

Celebrity guests Natasha Ledesma and Jeric Raval graced the gathering. The full trailer for “Mamay: The Great Man of Nunungan,”  movie was shown featuring the life journey of Mayor Marcos Mamay in Nunungan, Lanao del Norte. The film aims to inspire the public by demonstrating that poverty is not a hindrance to success.

“This will be the first time, na yung graduates ng pma at hindi nag graduate, will have a time na mag interact, at mag-mingle. So this is opportunity for us  to see at makilala itong mga graduates at saka hindi nakagradute na members ng 4th Class Men Club na assigned sa Region 9, 10, at Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao,” said 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Anthon Abrina.

Mayor Mamay expressed gratitude for the lessons he learned during his time as a cadet in the PMA class of 2004.

“Who would have thought na magiging mayor tayo without the discipline. ‘Yun po ang malaking natutunan natin sa PMA. We are very thankful. ‘Yung mga learnings from PMA na-apply natin sa totoong buhay [Who would have thought that we would become mayors without the discipline? That is great learning from the PMA. We are very much thankful. The learnings from PMA can be applied in real life],” sumala niya.

As the Vice President for External Affairs of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, Mamay actively participates in international events to represent the country. This includes his participation in the 2023 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum held in Brisbane, Australia, and the World Travel Market in London, United Kingdom.

According to Mamay, such experiences have provided valuable lessons applicable to the Philippines. The lessons also play a significant role in the development of tourism in Nunungan, where plans are underway to establish it as the nation’s wild berry capital, along with large-scale plantations of strawberries, grapes, and dragon fruit.
