2,000 AICS beneficiaries in Ozamiz City receive assistance from Sen. Marcos

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA)– Addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable communities, Senator Imee Marcos joined forces with Ozamiz Mayor Henry “Indy” Oaminal Jr. and city councilors to distribute financial aid through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. A total of P6 million was distributed to approximately 2,000 beneficiaries during an event held on December 14 at the Ozamiz City Gym.

The recipients, hailing from diverse backgrounds, included public mall vendors, Persons Who Use Drugs (PWUDs), Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), economically affected volunteer workers, and fire victims from Barangay Bacolod and Lam-an, Ozamiz City. Each beneficiary received P3,000 as part of the AICS program.

Marcos emphasized that these families bore the brunt of the pandemic’s impact over the last two years. Furthermore, she acknowledged the additional challenges posed by the surge in prices of essential commodities post-pandemic.

“Families were greatly affected by the pandemic in the last two years. After the pandemic, prices of prime commodities also increased, adding burdens to us,” Marcos said.

Financial assistance, facilitated through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), aims to provide relief to families facing financial difficulties due to the rising costs of fuel and other basic necessities.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Ozamiz and Misamis Occidental, Marcos thanked them for their unwavering support during various elections, spanning from her father Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s time to the recent presidential election of her brother, Ferdinand

Marcos Jr., on May 9.

Governor Henry S. Oaminal and City Mayor Indy Oaminal also extended their thanks to Marcos for her continuous support. They emphasized the crucial role of the provincial and city governments in initiating the AICS payout, showcasing a collaborative effort to address the needs of the vulnerable sectors.

The DSWD’s AICS program provides a variety of services, including financial support for other needs as well as medical assistance, burial support, transportation aid, and educational assistance. It specifically targets individuals or families in vulnerable sectors or those affected by calamities.

This AICS payout exemplifies the commitment of the provincial government of Misamis Occidental, with the support of Marcos, to uplift the lives of those facing crisis situations and provide meaningful assistance to those in need. (JMOR, edited by RTP/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
