2024 Regional Nutrition Awards honor LGU partners

DAVAO CITY (PIA)– The National Nutrition Council XI (NNC-XI) gave recognition to the provincial and Local Government unit of region XI for the exemplary nutrition programs during the 2024 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony, held October 16 at D’Leonor Hotel Davao City.

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region XI commended the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Davao Region for its impressive performance during the 2023 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI Pro). 

The Province of Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental and Mati City were the contenders for Green Banner Seal of Compliance Awardees, Davao City was able to get the award after 18 years. Asuncion, Davao del Norte was given the Green Banner Seal of Compliance Year 1 and the Province of Davao del Sur and the  Island Garden City of Samal were recipients of Green Banner Seal of Compliance year 2, while the Municipality of Maco, Davao de Oro Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (Crown Award).

NNC XI gave special awards, like the Aguila Awardees to Mayor Michelle Rabat of Mati City and Mayor Eufracio Dayaday Jr. of Asuncion Davao del Norte. The Nutritizen Awardee is Gov. Yvonne Cagas of Davao del Sur;  Nutri-Sigla Awardee is Gov. Edwin Jubahid of Davao del Norte; and the Kaugmaon Award is given to Mayor Michelle Rabat.

Moreover, Davao del Sur received the Pag Asa Award for the highest percentage of prevalence reduction in stunting for the year 2023 in the Provincial level, while at the City Level, Mati and Davao Cities received the award.

For the Municipal Level the Municipality of Baganga Davao Oriental got the highest percentage Prevalence Reduction, while the Municipality of Boston Davao Oriental for the 2nd highest percent Prevalence Reduction and Magsaysay Davao del Sur as the 3rd highest percent prevalence reduction.

Highest OPT Plus coverage for the year 2023 for Provincial was  given to the Province of Davao Oriental, for City level Davao City, and City of Mati for Component City level and Mun. Level Banaybanay, Davao Oriental.

Special Awards for Regional Nutrition Stakeholders, for Community Nutrition Hero Award to Barangay Nutrition Scholar Jocelyn Lumaad, Excellence in clinical nutrition leadership awardee to Guillermo Apigo, RND, MPA- HRM and former chief Dietitian of Southern Philippine Medical Center, another award Nutrition Educator of the year to Jason Molina, RND, MAEM, Public Health Nutrition Leadership Awardee to Dr. Maria Teresa Ungson, and Nutrition Advocate of the year Dr. Annabelle Yumang, Department of Health-11 Regional Director.

Other awardees included Dr. Jonna Masongsong of the province of Davao del Sur as Regional Outstanding Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (ROPNAO), Dr. Reden Bersaldo of Davao Oriental as ROPNAO Contender, Ana Marie Milgar of Davao del Sur as Regional Outstanding District Nutrition Program Coordinators (RODNPC) with Marilyn Realista of Davao City as Contender of RODNPC, and Wenifredo Go Jr. of Davao Oriental as RODNPC Contender.

Regional Outstanding Municipal Nutrition Action Officer  went to Joel Penido,  the contender for ROCMINAO  Ivy Mae Solibio of Mati City, Dr. Cherry Dema-Ala of Braulio E Dujali, Davao del Norte.

Gloria Corazon Sacupaya of Digos City was awarded Regional Outstanding Mun./ City Nutrition Coordinator with Nelia Rodilla of IGACOS and Charisse Cabusas of Kapalong, Davao del Norte as contenders.

Regional Outstanding Brgy. Nutrition Scholar (BNS) was given to Lineth Camana of Barangay New Visayas, Panabo City.
