DAVAO CITY, December 26 (PIA) – – After months of schooling, some 25 ‘friends rescued’ or former members of the New People’s Army, who already surrendered to the provincial government of Davao Oriental, earned basic education through the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
According to the report from the Provincial Information Office of Davao Oriental, seven ‘friends rescued’ graduated from Basic Literacy Program (BLP), eight from elementary level, and ten from secondary level.
The graduation ceremony took place in Sitio Magay, Barangay Don Martin Marundan, Mati City on December 17.
During the ceremony, each ‘friend rescued’ also received P 65,000 from the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integrated Program (ECLIP), P 2,880 from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for livelihood capital as National Certificate II (NC II) holder on Bread and Pastry Production, and P 50,000 from the provincial government as additional capital.
Governor Niño Uy, in his message, recognized the determination of the ‘friends rescued’ in pursuing their education.
The governor also thanked their partners for its reintegration programs for the ‘friends rescued’ on education, training, and livelihood.
Some of the province’s partners for the education of the ‘friends rescued’ include the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO)-Happy Home, ALS under the Department of Education (DepEd)-Schools Division of Mati City, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
