LAMUT, Ifugao (PIA) — Two thousand students of the Ifugao State University (IFSU) benefit from the educational assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development- Ifugao under its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.
The Office of Senator Imee Marcos funded the said assistance.
The distribution of the P5,000 cash assistance for the Batch I was held at the Luis Hora Gymnasium, IFSU Main Campus, Lamut on Sunday(November 5, 2023). At least 1,198 students mostly from the IFSU- Main Campus and Lagawe Campus were served.
A separate payout schedule is set for students from the other IFSU campuses.
Jethro Bilibli, the Governor of the Vocational Leaders of the Philippines College Chapter(VLPCC) – IFSU expressed gratitude on behalf of the student body to the DSWD and Senator Marcos for the assistance provided.
Some students also shared how they will use the cash assistance. 4th year IT student Merry Chris Espoli said the assistance is a big help for her research and daily needs.
“Malaking tulong ‘to para sa pang araw-araw namin, sa pangangailangan ko as a student at magagamit ko ito pambayad para sa capstone research namin lalo na at working-student ako. Isang malaking tulong ito sa akin,” said Espoli.
Graduating Accounting student Sharmine Kate Galotia intends to utilize the assistance to support her preparation for the board examination. Hazelyn Tawana, an education student, said that the assistance will help her buy a laptop to support her studies.
The selection process for the education assistance was based on their academic performance with completed coursework and passing grades.
The list of eligible students was forwarded to the Office of Senator Marcos which collaborated with SWAD-Ifugao to cross-check and confirm that the recipients are not receiving other forms of financial assistance.
This program is specifically designed for students who have not received any other educational grants or financial support from the government.
Meanwhile, Sen Marcos also provided ten student organizations at IFSU with computer equipment sets to support the students in their studies.
Coordinator Aloysious Buyucan, representing the Senator, led the awarding of the computer sets to the University Student Supreme Government, VLPCC, IFSU Sports League, Future Agriculturists and Entrepreneurs of the Philippines, Future Information Technologists Organization, Future Teachers Organization, College of Arts and Sciences- SSG, Criminology Students Society, Student Caregivers, Midwives and Nurses Association, and USSG-Lagawe Campus.
Buyucan shared that this is part of the Senator’s program to create opportunities for the youth and enhance school facilities especially in the area of technology.
IFSU President Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon advised the students to use the assistance wisely in the pursuit of education for their better future. She encouraged them cherish opportunities like this that can alleviate the financial burden on their parents.
“Education is a gift. We give premium to education. Education is an equalizer, a game-changer. It could better your life. It could break whatever situation you are in.
