3-day Independence Day celebration for 2024

MANILA — A new Bagong Pilipinas tradition starts as Independence Day 2024 holds 3-day celebration. The ‘festival’ type event utilizes the open field Burnham Green, Roxas Boulevard right across Quirino Grandstand.

Starting June 10, various attractions will be available for free to the general public.

Kalayaan Obstacle Course is an attraction for sport enthusiasts. In cooperation with the Pilipinas Obstacle Sport Federation, guests are welcome to try this ‘ninja warrior’ experience – a true showcase of the Filipino bravery, grit, athleticism and perseverance. There are competitions for various ages and groups.

Love Lokal Tiangge features products from various Filipino vendors care of Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

Kusina Warrior is a nationwide cooking competition brought to us by TESDA together with DTI and the Department of Agriculture. Select student cooks from TESDA training centers nationwide compete for the best Adobo and Pancit. On June 12, uniformed government personnel and Senior Government Officials will also take part and showcase their cooking prowess.

Musikalayaan will provide the stage for featured musicians. Artists include bands like Rocksteddy (June 10), The Juans (June 11), Plethora (June 11) and many more! Final concert on June 12 will be headlined by Filipina girl group sensation Bini. Free for the general public.

National Artist for Dance Alice Reyes holds a concert on June 10, also at the Burnham Green.

Free Movies await the public with the showing of three films – Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo, Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral on the evenings of June 11 and June 12.

Chili Federation group also holds their annual festivities. Labuyo eating competition, plants and products display and selling, and other activities await Chili lovers.

“Pampamahalaang Program at Serbisyo” happens on June 10 and 11 at the park’s Central Lagoon. It offers one-stop services from 41 government agencies and NGOs, offering medical clinics, fresh produce, passport appointment-bookings, NBI clearances, artisanal delicacies, children’s story-telling, book sales, educational exhibitions, games and contests.

Main Program – Parada ng Kalayaan on June 12 will feature 22 floats from various provinces and national government agencies. The parade will tell the story of the 11 events that illuminated the Philippines’ country-wide struggle for liberty. At the same time, the 10 original branches and cabinet departments of the first Philippine republic will also be depicted.

Floats will converge from across the country, from the northern city of Candon in Ilocos Sur and as far south as Zamboanga and Sulu; while today’s various government agencies tell their own origin story through compelling symbols-on-wheels.

Paolo Bediones and Isabelle Daza will serve as host for the June 12 program which starts at 5 p.m.
