LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) — Isinusulong ngayon ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Cordillera (DENR-CAR) ang pagdeklara sa tatlong lugar sa rehiyon bilang protected areas.
Kabilang na rito ang Tineg Forest Protected Landscape sa Abra, Pasil Protected Landscape sa Kalinga, at ang Upper Amburayan Watershed Protected Landscape sa Benguet.
Iniulat ni Linda Claire Pawid ng DENR-CAR sa ginanap na Sectoral Committee on Watershed and Environment Management 1st Quarter Meeting na nagkaroon na ng pagpupulong ang Regional National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) Review Committee sa mga nakaraang taon para rito.
Aniya, isinumite na rin sa National NIPAS Review Committee ang mga rekomendasyon ng regional committee.

“With the interest of the community, we proposed another three protected areas. We have done already the CSW (completed staff work) for this, regional review and we submitted it to the Central Office for national review,” si Pawid.
Ipinaliwanag ni Pawid na ang mga protected areas ay mga lugar na may naiibang landscapes at ecosystem na ipinoproklama para sa konserbasyon.
This are just small areas that we want to conserve and protect so that the future generation will have clean water and clean air, saad nito.
Ang Expanded NIPAS Act ang ginagamit na basehan sa pagdeklara ng mga protected areas. Kabilang sa hakbang ang paghahanda at pag-compile ng mapa, public notification at public hearing, paghahanda ng resources profile, public consultation, protected area plan, public hearing, regional review and recommendation, national review and recommendation, presidential proclamation, congressional action, at ang demarcation.
Sa Cordillera ay dalawang protected areas ang mayroon ng legislation partikular na ang Banao Protected Landscape Act (RA 11688) at ang Mt. Pulag Protected Landscape Act (RA 11685).
Sa ngayon ay hinihintay ang full legislation para sa Upper Agno River Basin Resource Reserve. Kasalukuyan ng sinusuri ng kinauukulang Protected Area Management Board committee ang draft bill para rito. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
