31 teacher-scholars pursue their cultural educ diploma in MSC

BOAC, Marinduque (PIA) — A total of 31 teacher-scholars from Mimaropa, along with Quezon and National Capital Region (NCR) continued with Level II of Graduate Diploma in Cultural Education (GDCE) at Marinduque State College under the supervision of Director Ruby Ann Lantita and Sharmaine Balut.

Participants from Palawan, Mindoro, Marinduque, Quezon and Manila are currently pursuing GDCE Level 2 courses, including CulEd 204 – Issues in Cultural Education; CulEd 205 – Media-based Cultural Documentation; CulEd 206 – Local Cultural Mapping; and CuLEd 207 – Development of Culture-based Lesson Exemplars, either through in-person classes or modality.

The Development of Culture-based Lesson exemplars aim to identify cultural symbols in each area to become class material in which CulEd 207 which started on July 17 was facilitated by Balut.

The subsequent CulEd courses at Level II are Local Cultural Mapping under the management of Prof. Rica Palis and Media-based Cultural Documentation in the direction of Prof. Tim Dacanay. Lastly, Issues in Cultural Education with Dr. Randy Nobleza in preparation for MAEd in Cultural Education or any subsequent GDCE application such as cultural mapping, heritage inventory, indigenous wisdom, heritage tourism or culture-based governance.

The GDCE in Mimaropa started in Marinduque in 2018 through a partnership between MSC and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) under the Philippine Cultural Education Program (PCEP). The first batch was conducted face-to-face, but due to the pandemic, it shifted to an online format. Meanwhile, the current batch began online and is expected to transition to in-person classes starting on August 12, coinciding with the National History Month and National Language Month.
