396 HOTS at DOLE-NCR job fair

CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) –A total of 396 registered jobseekers were Hired On-The-Spot (HOTS) during the weeklong job fair of the Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) in celebration of the DOLE’s 90th anniversary. The NCR leg of the anniversary job fair kicked off at the Manila Science High School Auditorium in partnership with the DOLE-Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), City Government of Manila, and PESO Association of Metro Manila (PAMM). Other job fair sites were in Pasig, Taguig, Malabon, and Pateros—offering a total of 30,986 job vacancies for 1,288 registered jobseekers.

The job fair offered a wide range of opportunities to every individual, reflecting the Department’s commitment in promoting decent and sustainable jobs.

Among the top local job vacancies were customer service representatives, cashiers, drivers, service crews, sales consultants, merchandisers, bus conductors, pipe fitters, sales clerks, and office staff.

Likewise, the top overseas job vacancies were nurses, occupational/physical therapists, production sewing machine operators, chefs, restaurant workers, butchers, hotel workers, care workers, scaffolders, welders, mechanical engineers, auto mechanics, livestock farmers, and construction workers.

In his message, DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma emphasized the labor department’s goal of contributing significantly to the nation’s growth and ensuring sustainable development for all.

“Bahagi po namin sa DOLE ang pagkakaroon ng iba’t ibang plano na magkaroon ng tinatawag na inclusive growth na kung saan walang maiiwan, mabawasan ang kahirapan, at magkaroon ng disente at dekalidad na trabaho,” he said.

DOLE-NCR Regional Director Atty. Sarah Buena S. Mirasol meanwhile, stressed the effectiveness of the Department’s initiative in bridging the gap between jobseekers and employers.

“Itong job fair ay isang hakbangin ng DOLE upang mabigyan ng pagkakataon ang marami sa atin na makahanap ng trabaho. Kaya naman ang aming ahensya ay patuloy na bibigyang diin ang pagkakaroon ng sapat at disenteng trabaho para sa bawat mamamayang Pilipino,” she said.

The successful job fair of DOLE helped individuals found immediate employment, just like Ms. Maridal Manuel and Mr. Ansorodin Yusoph who were grateful for this real-time break.

“Mahalaga sa akin itong trabaho kasi single parent ako, lahat ng trabaho pinasukan ko, nagtitinda ako ng ice candy, nagtitinda ako ng Yakult, lahat ginawa ko mabigyan ko lang sila ng edukasyon,” said Maridal, newly-hired car washer at Clean Car Philippines.

Ansorodin also thanked the Department for organizing the event as he had an opportunity to be hired as a production crew at CITI HRM Corp.

“Dahil sa ganitong activity ng DOLE nagkaroon ako ng trabaho, nagkaroon po ng solusyon ‘yung financial problem, tapos yung pangangailangan sa bahay,” he said.

Aside from the job fair, DOLE-NCR also facilitated the pay-out of cash-for-work assistance through Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged / Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program to 500 beneficiaries and awarding of Certificate of Eligibility under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) to 131 beneficiaries—the latter included 8 repatriated Lebanese and Israeli.
