SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) – About 400 residents, comprising Mangyan Indigenous People (IPs) from Sitio Bato-singit, Brgy. Manoot, Rizal received various services during the recent community outreach spearheaded by the Adventist Community Services International, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Philippine Red Cross.

Medical consultation and dental services, provision of reading eyeglasses, food packs distribution, circumcision, haircut, bloodletting activity, and spiritual counseling were offered during the outreach.

I am grateful for the Adventist Community Services and the soldiers of 68th Infantry Battalion who recommended our community to be a recipient of the outreach as our area is home for Mangyan IPs who are in need),” Barangay Captain Bonifacio Custodio said.

An awareness campaign was also conducted, led by the 68th Infantry Battalion, informing the public on the recruitment tactics of the communist group New People’s Army (NPA).

The NPA’s deceptive tactics for recruitment for IP and student sectors were taught during the campaign…One of the examples of such tactics is by agitating the masses using black propaganda to stir anger among the citizens towards the government to join their group),” Captain Ersel Filipinas of the 68th IB said.
