400 YOC to help deepen faith of youths

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA)–The Catholic Church leaders are positive that the marking of 400 years of Christianity (YOC) in Palawan will also deepen the faith and involvement of youths, utilizing their strengths in digital communication.

Bishop Socrates Mesiona said that the church allotted activities for the youths in Palawan from Apostolic Vicariates in Taytay and Puerto Princesa during the culminating activities of the 400 YOC. Citing Pope Francis’ message, youth are not just the future but also the present of the church and society.

“Nag-allot kami ng oras para ma-involve sila sa event, kaya yong parishes ay nagpadala sila ng youth delegate– Sila ang aktibong lumalahok sa gawain ng simbahan and we gave them a part in the celebration,” he said.

The culminating activities from August 24 to 25 involved the presence of local youths during the procession and the youth fair. Prior to these activities, youth also took part in the preparation and promotion on social media platforms.

Around 5,000 youths were also present on the second day of the culminating activity, from delegations sent by parishes across the province.

Bishop Edgardo Juanich added that the church also recognized the talents and skills of youth in disseminating the teachings in the digital age.

“Ang ating mga kabataan ay we recognize them na meron silang mga idealism like young Ezekiel Moreno, using their galing sa social communication. We know na ang kabataan have talents,” he said. (RPG/PIA Mimaropa-Palawan)
