SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) — A total of 430 health care workers (HCW) from the municipality of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro received their Health Emergency Allowance (HEA) from the Department of Health (DOH).

Each beneficiary received a total of P16,875 for the services they rendered in July, November and December 2021. This amounts to P7,256,250.

Lailanie Cadlaon, a barangay health worker (BHW) assigned in Barangay San Isidro, shared that the work during the pandemic had been the most difficult time as a health worker, “Mas challenging po [ang trabaho noong pandemic] kasi kahit na delikado, kami po ay kailangang mag-monitor sa [mga] taong dumarating sa aming barangay para sa kaligtasan ng lahat.”

(Our work was more challenging during the pandemic as we needed to monitor the people who arrived in our barangay even though it was dangerous. It is for the safety of everyone.)

Cadlaon will be allotting the HEA for her family’s sustenance, “Ang HEA po ay malaking tulong sa aming mga BHW. Sa hirap ng buhay, ito po ay malaking karagdagan para po sa aming pang araw-araw na pangangailangan.”

(The HEA is a huge help for us BHWs. This is a significant amount that can help provide for our daily needs.)

The DOH announced on August 15, its commitment to complete the distribution of health emergency allowances (HEAs) this year for healthcare workers who served during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The HCW received the first wave of their emergency allowance in September, 2023. As of November 3, 2023, the DOH said that a total of P50.56 billion worth of HEA for HCW have been released and the department is continuously disbursing allowances for HCW in both the public and private sector.

The payout was spearheaded by the Municipal Treasury Office (MTO) with the Municipal Health Office. Health workers who were not able to claim their HEA are given a week to report to the MTO. (DSG/PIA Mimaropa – Occidental Mindoro)
