4th KBP highlights Agriculture milestones in PH food sector

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The Department of Agriculture (DA) today will discuss efforts to enhance food sufficiency and resilience in the Philippines during this morning’s 4th episode of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas (KBP) to be held at the National Food Authority (NFA) in Quezon City.

The Department will highlight the programs and projects that are helping achieve its goal of a sufficient domestic food supply for Filipino consumers while also maintaining the well-being of local food producers.

This year, the DA is developing action plans for several commodities, including rice, corn, high-value crops, fisheries, and livestock. Infrastructure investments such as irrigation systems, farm-to-market roads, and cold storage facilities will be given priority.

Their goals include modernizing rural areas through mechanization, improving logistics, and developing measures to boost the food value chain.

Additionally, the primary focus will be on expanding areas of production and enhancing market access for local food.

The discussion will be led by DA Assistant Secretary for Operations U-Nichols Manalo, along with Administrator Eduardo Guillen from the National Irrigation Administration, Acting Administrator Larry Lacson from the National Food Authority, Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa for Special Concerns and Official Development Assistance, Assistant Secretary Daniel Alfonso Atayde for Logistics, Assistant Director Juana Tapel from the Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering, and Assistant Directors Herminigilda Gabertan and Ruel Gesmundo from the Bureau of Plant Industry.
