BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA)–Beekeeping is said to be an alternative livelihood to farming and contributes to food security as bees produce honey which is nutritional food and play important role in pollination of high value commercial crops.
The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera recently turmed over rehabilitation assistance kits to five bee keepers in the province.
DA-CAR Regional Executive Director Cameron P. Odsey handed over said assistance to Jayson Cam-ed and Eddie Dapliyan from Sagada and Paul Burgan, Junifer Moko and Irene Pandosen from Bontoc.
The rehabilitation program of the DA is one of the government’s major thrusts in providing assistance to the typhoon-affected agricultural sectors to help them recover.
Odsey explained that although their office is reporting all agricultural damages to their central offices, he prompted the beneficiaries to register with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) to further help them in issues brought by calamities.
“Advice ko ti farmers kala dakayu nga adda commercial apiary yu, padasen yu maki sarita ti PCIC. Adda ti mabalin nga bayadan da basta during typhoon. Dakkel nga banag nu adda mareimburse because you cannot expect nga kanayun ti kastoy nga assistances,” he said.(My advice to the farmers, especially you who have commercial apiary, to reach out to PCIC. They can pay damages during typhoons. It’s a big deal when you will be reimbursed because you cannot expect that this kind of assistance is always available.)
