SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development – Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS) Program Mimaropa recently conducted a Community Volunteers Training (CVT) for volunteers in the municipality of Calintaan.
The training focused specifically on the process of Community-Based Procurement, methods of emergency procurement, and roles of the volunteers during the sub-project implementation for the program’s second phase.
CV Jessica Clarito from the Project Implementation Team shared that the CVT helped her understand the importance of being well-versed in the project implementation in helping their community.
“Willing akong maging volunteer kasi gusto ko rin makabahagi sa isang project na marami ang makikinabang…Syempre wala pa po akong idea n’ong time na ‘yun [kung paano iyon gagawin]. Doon po ako nakakuha ng idea sa CVT, sobrang dami kong natutunan kung paano tamang mag-implementa [ng project]…para hindi na maulit ‘yung mga kakulangan sa phase 1 noon (I am very willing to be a volunteer because I want to be part of a project where a lot of people will benefit. At first, I had no idea how to do it. I learned a lot during the CVT on how to correctly implement a project to avoid the lapses that happened in phase 1),” Clarito said.
Engr. Villamor C. Racca Jr. of DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS Mimaropa highlighted that the CVT plays a vital role in empowering the CVs which will help them be more engaged in their community problem-solving process.
“Preparasyon [ang CVT] para matutunan [ng mga community volunteers] ang tamang [proseso ng community-driven development approach] at mai-apply nila ng maayos yung mga natutunan sa [training sa kanilang komunidad]…kahit volunteers lang sila…ay parte sila ng paghahanap ng solusyon sa mga problema ng kanilang komunidad (The CVT is preparation for the community volunteers to learn the correct process of community-driven development approach and be able to apply it properly in their communities. Even though they are only volunteers, they can participate in finding solutions to their communities’ problems),” Racca Jr. shared.
64 community volunteers participated in the CVT, which aims to capacitate the participants in implementing and managing the sub-projects awarded to them by the DSWD – Kalahi CIDSS Program totaling Php 9,284,000.00.
The volunteers identified a specific project for their community, and will be in-charge of the whole planning, procurement, and monitoring process.
Brgy. Concepcion will be receiving a rehabilitation of the water system, while volunteers from Brgy. Malpalon and Iriron had chosen concreting of access roads.
Construction of the Child Development Center was prioritized by the CVs from Brgy. Poblacion, and a similar project of construction of school building for senior high school will be awarded to Brgy. Poypoy.
On the other hand, volunteers from Brgy. New Dagupan focused on Installation of Solar Street Lights.
