6th ‘Treasures of SOX’ showcases the best in Region 12

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The Department of Tourism (DOT) in Region 12 held the annual ‘Treasures of SOX: A Travel and Trade Expo,’ from June 7–9, at the Midtown Atrium of Robinsons Place Manila in Ermita, Manila.

In its sixth year, the “Treasures of SOX” continues to showcase the best of the Soccsksargen region, comprising South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos.

Region 12 is known for its abundant resources, skilled people, and growing economy.

The event aimed to highlight the Soccsksargen region’s tourist products and services, attracting potential visitors and promoting the region’s unique attractions and experiences, such as the white sand beaches of Sarangani and the cultural experience of Lake Sebu.

It also showcased the region’s talented locals in sports, the arts, and product manufacturing.

“This is not only a travel show but also one way to showcase all the treasures of Soccsksargen from the bounties of our farms, destinations, accommodations, and culture,” DOT Director Nelia Arina said during a press conference on Saturday.

“Every booth that we have tells a story. In the region, we don’t only sell the products but also the memory. You need to go to the region to inculcate within yourself the memories that you’re going to cherish from visiting, so, this expo would be very effective.”

Some of the products featured in the expo include Tnalak clothing and bags, brass accessories crafted by the Tboli of Lake Sebu, sweet pomelos freshly harvested from Cotabato province, and premium Robusta coffee from Sultan Kudarat.

All four provinces, as well as the four cities in the region, participated in the event to present their tourism products to the public.

Arina also reiterated Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco’s earlier message that Soccsksargen “is open to both international and local tourists from other regions.”

“Security-wise, lahat naman ready [all are ready]. On infrastructure and accessibility, we have certain areas that need our assistance in terms of road network,” she explained.

The Treasures of SOX also featured a fashion show titled “Fabrics of SOX,” showcasing the designs of local designer Jearson Demavivas.

The event included an investment forum, complete with B2B (business-to-business) matching, to help attract investors to the region. (Genory Vanz Alfasain/DOT 12)
