70th annual mining conference set in Baguio City on Nov. 19 to 22

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — More than a thousand stakeholders from the mining sector and other related industries in the country will gather for the 70th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) on November 19 to 22, 2024 here in Baguio City.

This year’s theme, “Endurance and Innovation for Sustainability,” reflects the unique challenges faced by the mining industry in the Philippines, and the need to navigate these challenges by embracing innovative and sustainable practices and solutions towards achieving responsible and sustainable mineral resources development.

Spearheaded by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA), the country’s leading advocate for occupational safety, health, environmental management, and social responsibility in the minerals industry, 4-day conference is packed with various activities.

The conference will kick off on Nov. 19 with a Eucharistic celebration at the CAP John Hay Trade and Cultural Center.

It will be followed by the opening of the Mining Exhibit be led by PMSEA president Louie Sarmiento, mining officials and city officials.

The exhibit which will feature the best mine products, the best practices of mining communities and other related exhibitions in the mining industry will run for the whole duration of the conference.

In the afternoon will be the Mining Forum spearheaded by the Philippine Mining and Exploration Association, and a press conference at the Baguio Country Club.

The PMSEA will lead the annual Norfolk tree rejuvenation at Lower Session Road early morning of Nov. 20.

Also scheduled for the day are the Community Relations Officers Conference and the Youth Congress.

The day will culminate with the “Mining Night” at the Manor Hotel Garden.

The whole day of Nov. 21 will be devoted for the annual Mineral Industry Symposium to be led by the PMSEA with the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers(PSME).

Activities on Nov. 22 will start with the Mineral Industry Parade to be participated by representatives of the different mining companies and organizations, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) personnel and other officials from Upper Session Road to the Melvin Jones grounds at Burnham Park.

Mining companies and suppliers will then showcase their skills in the Mine Safety Field Demonstration and Field Competition such as first aid, hand mock, drill and firefighting.

Capping the mining conference will be the Testimonial Dinner/Annual Awards Night where mining and mineral processing companies that operate in the most socially, economically and environmentally responsible way, will be recognized.

To be awarded are the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award, Best Mining Forest Contest, Safest Mines Awards, and Best Mines’ Personalities, among others.

The 2024 ANMSEC is in coordination with various key stakeholders including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-MGB, the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines, the PSEM, as well as mining companies, quarries, mineral processing plants, suppliers, service contractors, and various professional organizations.
