MANILA, (PIA) — Soccsksargen or SOX, a blossoming tourism region in central Mindanao, is ready to welcome both international and domestic tourists, according to Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 12 Director Nelia Arina in an event held in Manila.
Arina echoed Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco’s message of openness, emphasizing the region’s preparedness for visitors during the launch of the 6th Treasure of SOX: A Travel and Trade Expo 2024 held at the Robinsons Place Ermita in Manila over the weekend.
“Security-wise, lahat naman ready (all are ready),” she said.
While infrastructure improvements are ongoing, particularly road networks, Arina highlighted the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program, a joint effort with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), that has already benefited several destinations.
Accessibility is not a hurdle, with air travel options available from Luzon and Visayas via General Santos City or Davao City airports.
Beyond leisure tourism, DOT-12 is also aiming to attract investors. A forum in Makati held on Sunday, June 9, invited at least 25 international and Manila-based companies.
“We have incentives for investors, and we’re inviting them to visit for free with the support of all our local governments,” Arina said.
Soccsksargen or SOX, composed of South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City, has been actively promoting tourism.
Earlier, the Philippine Experience Program: Soccsargen showcased the region’s offerings to foreign dignitaries and tourism stakeholders.
Visitors to SOX can explore several tourist sites in the towns of General Santos, Koronadal, Tacurong, and Kidapawan, as well as the provinces of Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and North Cotabato.
The region has spectacular natural settings ideal for ecotourism, including breathtaking skies, mountains, lowlands, and underwater attractions.
It is also home to five major indigenous peoples—the Tboli, Blaan, Manobo, Tiruray, and Maguindanaons—who still practice their traditional ways of life. SOX has several adventure opportunities, making it an excellent choice for thrill-seekers and environment enthusiasts. (PIA-NCR)
